Residential Portfolio

Our residential work is the backbone of our business. We respect the best of traditional and modern design. But that’s not the most important thing. We strive to fit a design to its site and to its owner’s style and synthesize that into a strong cohesive statement. By careful analysis of both context and client, we strive to create a distinctive home that will endureover time. A house that “lives well”.

Our work can be found in Atlanta neighborhoods of Virginia Highlands, Morningside, Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Alpharetta and in North Georgia and Alabama. We have Lake projects at Lake Lanier, Lake Burton, and Lake Oconee and as far away as Lake Champlain in New York.

We have a strong presence in Florida communities like Watercolor, Watersound, Eastern Lake and Navarre Beach. We are on many approved lists including most St. Joe developments and the communities like Rosemary Beach and Wild Heron. We are frequent visitors to the northwest Florida panhandle known as 30A, SoWal or the Emerald Coast.

Adirondack House

This house was designed for a childhood friend for her family vacation compound on Lake Champlain in upstate New York. The predominant style of the area is Adirondack. The style is unpretentious, relaxed, rustic and woodsy and features handcrafted stripped pole columns and railings, shingle siding and casement windows...[Read more]

Lake Oconee House

The idea for this house was derived from three major factors. One, design a modern craftsman lake bungalow with a strong presence, two design a house with a west facing view which needed shade and three take the best advantage of as much of the lake as possible. The strong center granite chimney anchors a big sheltering gable roof. The lakeside façade is recessed to provide shade and view to the glass and cool the interior spaces...[Read more]

Martin House

It’s every architect’s dream to design his own home. I finally got my chance in 1996 after many years of searching for the right lot at the right price. We started with a south facing sloped lot in a wooded suburban site. The lot was passed over due to the challenge of building on a steep slope. We decided to carve a driveway and entry court into the slope...[Read More}

Watersound Camp Creek House I

This house is built next to Clear Creek Lake in Watersound Resort. Watersound is a resort located on the Gulf of Mexico near Seagrove, Florida between Panama City and Destin. The house is built to maximize views in all directions but particularly across the lake, the dunes and the Gulf of Mexico. The main living spaces are on the second level where the views are best...[Read More]

Watersound Camp Creek House II

This house is built on the same street as the first Camp Creek house and has the same lake/dune/gulf views. There is more room at the front of the house to create more outdoor living space. The owner requested more connection with the ground and we were able to give him a wraparound porch...[Read More]

Watersound Courtyard House

When we don’t have views to exploit, we create nice, private courtyard spaces to look onto. These spaces are great for pools and outdoor living much like the Romans built centuries ago. This house is in an L-shape and has a detached garage/apartment to create enclosure for a courtyard with pool...[Read More]

Watersound Peninsula House

The lot for this house had a long curved front. The shape of the house is a reflection of this. It has a façade of gable/gambrel/gable where the gables are 45 degree to the center gambrel. As you walk along the curve, the facades face you. The fulcrum is the crow’s nest which has 360 degree views of the gulf, the lake and all of Watersound...[Read More]

Watersound West Beach House

This is another courtyard house and is L shaped in plan. It features a covered breezeway with fireplace between the garage and the main house. It’s great for alfresco dining or roasting marshmellows. The tower signifies entry and the eyebrow dormers let light into the vaulted...[Read More]

Clear Creek Center

This project was made possible by the extension of Piedmont Park and the Atlanta Beltline to the back door of a retail building Bainbridge and Martin, Architects did back in the 2000’s. Since the project was on the beltline, the property afforded a new zoning type which allowed a reduction in parking. Thus we were able to add 14,000 sf of office...[Read more]

Couer d' Allene

This is an early Beltline project in Adair Park on Atlanta’s south side, an old industrial area facing the railroad tracks. Originally the building was a parts factory. We converted the building to loft apartments. Since there was not much additional site to be used for outdoor amenities, we added spiral stairs from the units to private roof decks. Most of the units have...Read More
